Burton - Meadow Dog Freedom Field, Training & Enrichment Facility is a family-owned business with over 50 years of dog ownership and experience along with a broad scope of qualifications including Animal Psychology, Dog Behaviour, Obedience, Scent work & Gundog Training, Animal Assisted Therapy, Animal husbandry, Pet Welfare & Canine First aid allowing us to offer you the best training for your individual dog along with our enclosed freedom field for private hire allowing your fur babies a relaxed, enjoyable experience with all the scents and sensory experience of the countryside due to our semi-rural location in Cocknage, Stoke on Trent.

Do you fancy doing something different with your dog?

Scent work harnesses the natural power of your dog’s nose to search and find a scent, just as police dogs use their nose to track scents and find evidence or locate people to assist their police handlers, your pet dog can do the same such as finding your misplaced purse or car keys etc. 

It is a brilliant activity for improving your dog’s focus, delivering mental stimulation and naturally tires your dog so possible alternative to lengthy wintery walks in the rain whilst providing an enriching, satisfying, enjoyable pastime for you and your dog. 

Scent work is suitable for all dogs aged 6 months and above, any breed can participate, even dogs with joint or mobility issues can take part.

For Puppies 3 months of age and above, this course covers all aspects of new puppy ownership and responsibilities, an introduction to basic obedience, puppy etiquette, lead work and all-important puppy socialisation.

All our training is carried out using only positive reinforcement techniques and we only operate small group classes to ensure the classes are not too overwhelming for young puppies and as proactive and beneficial as possible - 5 x 1 hr weekly classes 

Puppy Stage 2 Training. Next course start date 31st May at 11.00am

Following on from puppy stage 1 this course is aimed at puppies who have gained a basic understanding of obedience and are ready to progress to broaden their impulse control, focus and heel work off & off lead recall - 5 x 1 hr weekly classes

For dogs 6 months of age and above, this course is aimed at dogs who mastered the foundational understanding of basic obedience disciplines and are now entering their teenage period and testing boundaries.

The course incorporates classical conditioning & operant condition techniques to address threshold boundaries,  impulse control, engage and disengage, recall and focus issues - 5  x 1 hr weekly classes 

Adolescent puppy training. Next course start date 31st May at 2.00pm

For dogs 9 months of age and above, this course is aimed at dogs who mastered the foundational understanding of basic obedience disciplines and are now entering their teenage period and testing boundaries.

General obedience training for older pups and dogs which require assistance with impulse control, focus and lead reactivity - 5 x 1 hr weekly classes - unfortunately this course is not suitable for reactive dogs. 

Introduction to Scent work.

Gundog & Working breeds

For puppies 12 months and above, this course is aimed at puppies that have mastered general obedience skills and are now ready to progress to an intermediate level working on focus, impulse control, off lead work, distance commands and a taster of gundog dummy retrieval and scent work, 5 weekly x 1 hr classes.

Puppy Social Play Sessions

Younger puppy social play sessions are held on Monday's at 6.30pm for 30 minutes play in our outdoor meadow and is specifically for puppies 3 months and above. 


These sessions are a great opportunity for your puppy to meet & play with other pups off lead in a controlled and safe environment, giving them the chance to learn important social skills and the puppy parents time to cha 


Places need to be booked before arrival as we limit numbers so that its not too overwhelming for the younger pups.

Terms & Conditions

 Please note that use of the field or the training activities held at Burton-Meadow are  subject to the agreement that you accept the terms & conditions as listed below. • It is the responsibility of all prospective clients to ensure the training area /  freedom field is suitable and secure for their specific individual dog use e.g  fence height, fencing materials, and proximity to livestock and a viewing can be  made before by arrangement with the Management. • Owners must ensure that all dogs using the training facilities or freedom field  are up to date with their dog(s) respective flea, worming, vaccinations and tick  control.  • If your dog(s) is showing any signs of illness (coughing, diarrhoea, vomiting,  general illness, lethargy etc) you must cancel any pending booking. This is to  preserve the health of all dogs visiting the facility particularly as some may have  weakened immune systems.  • All Dog Trainers / Professional walkers must provide a copy of their Professional  Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance prior to be granted permission to use  the field facility. Inability to provide a copy will mean that permission to use the  field will be withheld. Insurances must be kept up to date and valid for the  intended duration of use of the field. • All dogs must be micro chipped and wear their collars with an up to date tag  that complies with the current law. • Any perceived harsh handling of any dog(s) either verbal or physical is not  permitted and will result in the handler being asked to leave the facility. Pricing  • Burton – Meadow reserve the right to alter the pricing structure for use of the  facilities without notice or consultation with clients. • Payment can be made by Cash or Bank transfer only and must be received  before you use the facility. Bank details: Account  name: Mrs Vicki Burton Sort Code: 77 58 06 Account No: 507 890 68   • Private Field hire: £7 per dog for 30 minutes, addition same household dogs are  charged at an additional £2 each up to 5 dogs. • Group meet up’s hire: Up to 15 dogs £40 per hour. • Group training courses: £65.00 per course which consists of 5 x 1 hour classes. • Private 1:1 lesson: £40.00 per hour. Opening times – Generally 8.30am to 5.00pm x 7 days per week, however, to coincide  with daylight hours this is adjusted seasonally. Strictly no access to the facility including the carpark is allowed without an appointment.  Booking & Cancellations - Use of the training facilities / field is strictly by booking only.  Any breach of this condition will lead to your permitted use being permanently withdrawn. • Bookings are non transferable to other people and if not cancelled with a  minimum of 24 hours notice payments cannot be refunded. • Bookings that are cancelled with 24 hours’ notice or more will be refunded, or  transferred if preferred. Refunds will be made at the end of each week. To cover  the administration of refunds, a cancellation fee of £2 will be applied for each  cancellation. • When making your booking for the field you must give honest accurate details of  the number of dog(s) to be used in the booking. Any changes before the booking  takes place must be notified to Burton- Meadow in advance. • Training classes must be paid for in advance however the Management can  apply discretional conditions in certain circumstances; all fees are nonrefundable except in the case of menstruating bitches where the pre paid  classes may be rolled over or transferred to freedom field use.  • If you cannot attend your field booking for whatever reason you may prefer to  simply move the booking to an alternative date and time, please contact us if  you wish to do this as this will avoid any cancellation fee being applied.  Cancellations are not possible if they are required with less than 24 hours  notice, and payments will not be refunded. • Field booking time includes the time required for you to secure your dog(s) and  return them to your vehicle so as to ensure the safety of other users and  animals. Customers must ensure that they do not arrive on the carpark more  than 5 minutes prior to their booking time and depart the car park no later than  within 5 minutes after the end time of their booking. For this reason, we  recommend you allow a couple of minutes to exit the field safely. Failure to  ensure that other customers are not kept waiting to use the field may lead to the  withdrawal of the facility for your use. Numbers of Cars, People and Dogs - Clients of the field must only park their cars in the  designated car park area which is to the left as your come through the main gate. Use of  the field is subject to a maximum of 8 vehicles being present in the designated car park  area for the duration of your booking. Withdrawal of Facility – Management reserve the right to withdraw permission to use the  facility at their discretion, for example on the basis of weather conditions, or where  individuals have not complied with the conditions of use. Subject to the reason for the  withdrawal of the facility, any advanced payment may be refunded. However the  Management of Burton- Meadow shall be under no liability for any other expenses  incurred or loss sustained by the client as result of the use of the facility being withdrawn  at our sole discretion. Entering & Exiting the facility - All owners must keep their dogs on leads, and in the case  of banned breeds, muzzled at all times whilst in the car park area. Once having gained  access to the field and closed the gate behind you the field is secure and you may release  your dog(s) and enjoy! • The gate to the car park will when not in use will be locked. Customers must  ensure they close all the gates when entering and exiting the facility. • The Management accepts no liability for any damage or loss whatsoever  sustained whilst clients are in the car park or field areas. We factor into our  booking system a 15 interval between each booking time to facilitate safe &  stress free access and egress, if you enter the field area later than the time of  your booking this will not alter the end time of your booking, therefore you  should ensure that you vacate the facility on time so as not to cause any delay  to anybody waiting to start their session. Maintenance & Health & Safety – There is a fresh drinking water available in the field for  dogs so please allow your dog to drink freely especially in the hotter weather. • Customers must pick up their dogs waste (poo), and we ask that you take your  used poo bags home with you to dispose of. Anyone found to disregard this  condition may have their permission to use the facility withdrawn.  • This facility is a countryside-based area and as such, although maintained by  the Management, there may be branches, nettles and stones etc. in the field. • There are no client toilets on site.  • The field area and fencing will be inspected daily to ensure it is safe and secure  but please notify us if you have any concerns. • You must not litter the facility, you are responsible for disposing of your litter off  site. • Owners must discourage their dog(s) from digging and any subsequent holes  from your dog(s) digging must be filled in prior to leaving the field area. • During inclement weather the field may get muddy so clients must ensure  adequate and suitable footwear is worn. • Please remove all of your personal dog toys and training aids on leaving the  facility, being particularly vigilant to remove any broken toys or balls. Tennis  balls in particular pose a serious choking risk to any dog especially small  puppies. • Children are welcome to accompany clients, any children under the care  and/or control of the client must be supervised at all times by the client. Some  dogs do not respond well to over excited children so this must be avoided.  Please do not allow your children to climb on the fences or the dog agility  equipment. • Clients cannot bring any article of an inflammable or explosive matter, or any  items that provides an offensive smell, or CFC or any civil, electrical, gas or  other apparatus. i.e vapes, pipes or cigarettes into the facility which includes the carpark and driveway to front gate. • Dogs should not be left unattended at any time. You should accompany your  dog(s) at all times such that you are aware of what they are doing, and can  ensure they are safe and are complying with these terms and conditions, at no  time should any dog(s) be tethered to any structures on site, e.g. Fencing,  Posts, Gates. • Climbing on gates, fences or hedges is strictly forbidden so as to ensure they  remain fit for purpose.  • In accordance with the law regarding 'Responsible Dog Ownership' you are  entirely responsible for yours and your dog(s) safety whilst at Burton- Meadow.  The law states that you should be in control of your dog(s) at all times.  • The Management will be allowed access the field facility when in use at any  time to carry out inspections and only decisions made by them regarding safety  and fitness of use, will be binding. • The Management reserve the right to refuse permission to or evict any persons  from the premises.  Emergencies - The Management have the right to cancel any booking forthwith in the  event that the facility is affected by an emergency / 'Act of God' at any time. Any fees paid  will be refunded in these circumstances. Variations to the Agreement -The Management reserve the right to vary these terms and  conditions at any time. Any variations so made should be deemed to be incorporated in  these conditions. Marketing & Publication - The Management reserve the right to use any material including  texts and images provided by you to us (in any format) for the purposes of marketing and  promotion of our facility on our website www.Burton-Meadow.co.uk or Face book page  Burton – Meadow if you are not happy with this please inform the Management. Preservations of Rights - This agreement does not create any rights over the land, and the  client hiring the field accepts the landowner maintains control and possession of the  facility at all times. Personal Responsibilities - The Management are not responsible and will not accept any  liability for any loss, damage, injury or death how so ever and by whom so ever caused  whether to the clients property, dogs, or person (s) whilst at Burton- Meadow. Declarations I/We agree to abide by these rules, terms and conditions, and accept that the use of these  facilities is done so at my own risk and that of my dogs or accompanying family or friends  dog’s behaviour and actions are my sole responsibility, and no claim can be made against  Burton- Meadow proprietor. I/We accept that the Management have no liability for losses, claims, actions, damages,  costs, expenses or other liability incurred at this training facility or hire & use of BurtonMeadow. 

By proceeding to pay for these facilities prior to its use it is deemed that the above has  been read, understood, agreed to and accepted by the client making the payment

We offer a specifically tailored training plan £40 per hour at our facility with an additional .50p per mile for home visits or accompanied walks.
